As I think about how to introduce this weekend course to you, I am connecting to what it means to me, and why I am moved to share this offering with you.
Will you join me while I tell you a
story?
A story of Taiji
The deep grooves of temporal magic we touch when we engage in the art of Taijiquan is something those who have tasted it never forget. Much as after our first kiss we are forever changed by it.
Like being reacquainted with an old friend, we discover a world of being which is always there, waiting patiently for us to listen.
Such was my experience when I first attended a formal Taiji class when I was 19. I stepped onto the streets of
Frogner in Oslo after the class, and the colours and scents of autumn hit me as if I was experiencing it for the first time. A solitary smile crossed my lips for the first time in years. The first kiss of the personal transformation of Taiji was delivered. I was forever changed.
This is not the time nor the place to recount the full journey I have been on since then, though it has been a winding path indeed. Guided by the imprint of that first kiss of intimacy with
unfettered being, I travelled to China, became a Kungfu-disciple, came back to Norway and then had to offer the discipleship and identity into the alchemical fires to move forwards on my journey towards intimacy with life.
Intimacy with life
That is what the way has always been about for me. Listening so closely to the unfolding Now, that what wants to happen may happen. Finding peace with what is. Cultivating intimacy with what is.
The path into intimacy with
what is led me to create Daomove. A teaching on how we can be moved by Dao. How we listen for it. How we become intimate with it.
Until recently I had not taught Taijiquan formally for many years, though it is an inextricable part of my body of work. The Taijitu, or the Taiji map is a symbol we all know. The Yin Yang symbol. The twin black and white fishes locked in a tight embrace, a speck of each forming the eye of the other. Taiji means the great extremes. Hard and soft,
up and down, positive and negative. The art of Taiji is the art of harmonising these extremes within ourselves and bringing them into alignment. Creating something which includes both hard and soft, yet which is neither.
The art of Taiji is the art of life
The pending reintegration of Taijiquan into my work has made itself known for a while now, and I'm happy to say the time is here now.
The story continues.
